AeroShield™ UV Lightbulb uses light at a wavelength of 253.7nm for disinfection. According to the CDC, “Mercury vapor lamps emit more than 90% of their radiation at 253.7 nm, which is near the maximum microbicidal activity”.  Ultraviolet germicidal irradiation is a disinfection method that uses UV light to kill or inactivate microorganisms. The germicidal effect comes from the absorption of this wavelength by nucleic acids which results in genetic defects, or photolesions, which kill or inactivate the organism.
